First used by humans around 8,000 BC, it was the first metal to be smelted from ore around 5,000 BC, poured into a mold around 4,000 BC. It is now used for it’s electrical qualities, is a trace mineral in the human body, and a component of sterling silver. Azurite, malachite and turquoise are all minerals containing copper.
