Copper is an element, and like other elements is often found combined with other minerals. It is often found in nature in it’s pure state. First used by humans around 8,000 BC, it was the first metal to be smelted from ore around 5,000 BC, poured into a mold around 4,000 BC. It is now used for it’s electrical qualities, is a trace mineral in the human body, and a component of sterling silver. Azurite, malachite and turquoise are all minerals containing copper.
